Ahi tradition takes its name from the Arabic word "Ahi", which means "my brother". In addition, there are those who argue that the word Ahi comes from the Turkish word "Akı". The word Akı means "open-handed, generous, valiant". Bursa, which has been the center of trade from the Ottoman period to the present, is maintained by tradesmen chambers and professional associations established by tradesmen from various professional groups. Ahi tradition is carried out in the districts where tradesmen's organizations were established in place of the Ahi Guilds in the past, especially in the central districts of Bursa, Osmangazi and Yıldırım Districts. “Sed (a belt or cloth made of cotton or wool) wearing Ceremonies” are held in “Ahilik Week” activities in October every year.
