Although the materials of the quilt have changed since Hallacı Mansur, who is accepted as the master of quilt makers, its usage area has not changed. Quilt has an important place in our handicrafts in our traditional culture, apart from being a cover used to protect from the cold while sleeping. It has an important place in the preparation of traditional practices starting from birth such as the "postpartum bed", the "circumcision bed" at the circumcision entertainments, the bride's dowry and the preparation of the "bride bed".
Wool and cotton are traditionally used as filling materials in quilt making. While Cotton fabrics are being used for the quilts to be used in daily, silk satin fabrics are generally used for brides' dowry quilts, circumcision quilts and guest quilts. In Bursa, quilts are made for dowries of the young girls who are at the age of marriage. Detailed motifs are usually chosen for dowry quilts; Tulip, coleus, swallow, wicker weave (Ottoman), saucer magnolia, violet, grape vine, branched clover motifs are determined according to the liking of customers. Quilts are completed in a day to a week depending on the intricacy of the motif. Quilts for daily use are prepared with cotton fabrics and simple patterns, bridal quilts are sewn with satin, silk, satin, velvet, taffeta fabrics with special patterns.
Today, quilts, which have an important place in Bursa's traditional culture, continue to decorate rooms and beds on special occasions, weddings, brides' dowry, circumcision entertainments and newborn celebrations.
Yorgancılar Çarşısı (The quilt makers Bazaar), located in the Grand Bazaar in Bursa Khans Region, stands today as a reflection of the quilt making culture on Bursa city architecture.
