Mudanya Hagios Sergios Monastery
Medikion Monastery, also known as Hagios Sergios Monastery, is located on the road from Tirilye to Eşkel Port. There is a Greek Cemetery in the northwest of the monastery. The Medikion Monastery, which was dedicated to Hagios Sergios when it was first built, was renamed in the 11th century and took its current name. The monastery, which was first established in the 8th century and used as a farm, has survived only the walls and the magnificent entrance doors, each weighing 200 kilograms. Although no exact date is given, it is known that Nikita, who was appointed as the abbot of the monastery, which is claimed to be built between 780 and 810, was transferred to the monastery when he died in 824. Very few remains of the monastery, which is located in the olive grove next to the town, close to the main road in the south, have survived. There are two inscriptions on the door. It suffered an important fire in 1800, and it is understood from the inscription that it was repaired in 1801. An article from 1889 says: "The rectangular planned building has no roof, no columns,it is like an abandoned inn”. ".
